Rovers 1st XI Season Review 2009/2010
Neath
Premier League
Following a long summer break, Bryn Rovers once again returned to the Neath Premier League for the 2009/2010 season somewhat lighter in squad strength following the shock retirement of the infamous Delash Deadly Del Patel and regular defenders Mark Griffiths and Karl Llewellyn departed in search of Welsh League glory. However their departure allowed the long term, much anticipated arrivals of centre-half Dan Head-banger Richards and left-back Neil Chopper Evans.
On the first day of the campaign, Bryn were locked in a colossal opening fixture as they hosted league giants, Giants Grave. To the astonishment and delight of many on lookers, an elated Bryn euphorically outclassed their league rivals in a 2-1 home triumph. With an epic start to the season, Bryn further reinforced their winning mentality as they overwhelmed Ynysygerwen 5-3 at home in the following fixture, in what was a perfectly competitive, epic game of football. Nevertheless, the match wasnt without its uncertainties. Unlike Grave, Ynysygerwen drew first blood thus forcing Bryn to chase an equaliser. However, with talent in the form of Phil Faster than the speed of light Eady at the helm of the Bryn attack, it proved impossible to guard a marginal lead and Ynys eventually succumbed to a Phil Eady master class hatrick bolstered by two splendid goals from Chris Mr Muscle Marland.
Albeit, good things seldom last and Bryns first blip of the season came whilst away to FC Clydach in a dreary one all draw. Their slight misfortune of the previous match soon escalated in the Premier Division Cup as they were sent crashing out at the hands of Sunnybank in a 2-0 first round defeat. The following week, Bryn were in self destruct mode after an unexpected and thwarted 3-1 defeat to division one outfit Rhos FC.
After the disappointments of both open and league cup campaigns, it was refreshing to see Bryn back to winning ways with a 2-3 win away to Park Travellers, showing the vision, promise and confidence that has been seldom seen since the emphatic win over league favourites Giants Grave on the opening day of the season.
Fortunately Bryn did not carry their deplorable cup form into the first round West Wales Cup and in doing so annihilated a hapless Hendy side 10-1 for their largest win of the season. Now recapturing earlier form and confidence, Bryn then went on to silence their league neighbours Pontardawe with a resounding 5-1 home victory and the following week blew a powerless former welsh league Ystradgynlais away with an exceptional display of power, skill and speed resulting in a 1-6 away win for Bryn. With 21 goals in their last 3 matches, Bryn were ready to set the record straight against Sunnybank. However, déjà vu descended on Cae Criced as Bryn once again suffered a humiliating 0-2 defeat at the hands of Sunnybank. Further adding to Bryns consistency woes, they then exited the West Wales Cup in only the second round with a 3-0 defeat away to a superior Pengelli Utd. Now knocked out of all cup competitions it could be perceived as a blessing in disguise as attentions could be directed solely to the Neath Premier League title.
The next fixture saw Bryn visit old league adversaries Onllwyn and although their performance against the struggling defending champions was buoyant and heroic, they fell further into the clutches of defeat as Onllwyn defended their 100% home record against Bryn with a 4-2 victory. Immediately, Bryn had the opportunity of a rematch against Onllwyn the following week and a classic positive display from Bryn saw them destroy Onllwyn 4-0 and end a four match long losing streak. Credit to the Bryn centre halves Dan Richards and Jason Yogi Harries and the defence as a whole: alongside successfully carrying out their defensive duties they also played a crucial role in attack and claimed two goals and a number of assists for their efforts. Bryn then went on to claim maximum points in a fluent 5-0 win over Ynysmeudwy.
For the next fixture, Bryn were at full strength for their away trip to Skewen to take on Giants Grave. It was probably one of the most invigorating and energetic matches from a spectating point of view. As Bryn looked set to complete the double, fate intervened and as a result of a missed Bryn penalty and injuries in crucial areas of the team, Bryn were eventually edged out 4-3. Despite losing, the potential and direct play Bryn exhibited was mind blowing but ultimately lacked the luck they had in the season opener.
In spite of being edged out away to Giants Grave, Bryn completed the double over Pontardawe the following week with a dominating 0-3 away victory with Phil Eady and Dan Richards both finding the back of the net. However, once again consistency eluded them the following week as a rare calamitous mistake from Jason Harries in the dying minutes of the match saw Bryn succumb 1-0 to Sunnybank for the 3rd time this season. However AFC Caewern was not so fortunate the next week as Bryn hammered in four at home to run out eventual 4-3 winners.
In the last two seasons, local rivals Cwm Wanderers proved to be Bryns Achilles heel and when Bryn hosted the local derby in late February, an early Cwm goal set to add to Bryns frustrations. However, a Phil Eady hatrick ended Cwms claim to the local bragging rights. Eady further added two goals to his scoring rampage against Ynysygerwen in a 2-1 win at home, despite the fixture initially being scheduled to be played away, Ynys surprisingly forfeited their home advantage due to the lack of a suitable venue. A 1-3 win soon followed against AFC Caewern away thanks to another superb hatrick from the boot of Phil Eady.
In the wake of three solid victories, Bryn were once again locked in a local derby away to Cwm Wanderers for the second time. Again, Bryn have found it difficult to grind out results at Cwms home and this looked set to continue as just in the first meeting, Cwm took the advantage in the opening minutes. Bryns response was nothing short of mind blowing and an awe-inspiring free-kick from Rhodri Titch Thomas, bolstered by thunderous strikes from Phil Eady and Chris Marland set to rest their Cwm demons.
Thanks to the fine run of results that the team exceptionally produced, Bryn were placed at the top of the Neath Premier League entering the final fixtures of the season with Giants Grave lingering menacingly in second. However to Bryns delight, Grave unexpectedly surrendered two crucial points in a 2-2 draw to Park Travellers, who would then face Bryn at Cae Criced the following week. Unlike Grave, Bryn proved too formidable for Park to hinder their title ambitions and thanks to four exceptional goals from Bryns answer to Dimitar Berbatov, Nicky Oompa Loompa Jones and also Chris Marland, Bryn ran out 5-3 winners. With only three games remaining, Bryn travelled to already relegated Ynysmeudwy for their final away game of the season. This top vs bottom clash proved to be one of the most frustrating fixtures Bryn had to encounter all season, but nevertheless goals from both strikers Phil Eady and Nicky Jones ensured that the title hopes remained alive with a 2-3 final away win. In the penultimate game, Bryn were set to host FC Clydach; who like Grave and Sunnybank forced Bryn into dropping two points earlier in the season. Nevertheless, only a solitary goal from Nicky Jones was all that was required to secure the astounding 1-0 victory.
In the final fixture of the season a win over Ystradgynlais would guarantee a top two finish for Bryn, however it would not yet reveal who would be crowned champions of the Neath Premier League. Two incredible goals from Rhodri Thomas and an equally superb goal from Chris Marland ended Bryns season with an emphatic 3-0 triumph in front of a capacity Cae Criced faithful. The team demonstrated their depth and determination and despite their unexpected exits from all cup competitions, what did not kill them only made them stronger. Their understanding of one anothers tendencies and determination evidently surfaced each week since their last defeat in early February to Sunnybank.
After twenty league games consisting of; sixteen wins, three losses, one draw, scored sixty and conceded twenty-eight with four clean-sheets, league glory marginally eluded Bryn Rovers in the final week when Giants Grave overcame third placed Sunnybank. However the thirty-three Bryn Rovers players who contributed at some point this season have already proved that they have presented themselves as worthy winners.

Division 1 Cup Final
On the day Bryn went down to a team that deserved their victory, however things could have been different if the referee would have awarded Bryn a penalty in the second half that was obvious for the every member of the large crowd to see. Chris Marland and Eric Doherty had good early chances for Bryn and were unlucky not to score with the woodwork denying Marland. Grave opened the scoring after 40 minutes when a good cross was converted by Johnny Thomas, after 4 Bryn players chased after the same player. Bryn trailed at the half and decided to push Mike Young further forward to help Marland up front. But as many times in a final before Bryn were out of luck, as they pressured for the equaliser Grave reponed with a goal after 3 crisp passes and a great assist by their veteran forward. A very good game of football, which was extremly close as both teams gave it their all. This was Bryn's first ever loss in a cup final after previously winning 3 out of 3 atempts.

division 1 cup semi final
Bryn reached their fourth cup final in the last 8 seasons with a late rally at cae criced in front of a capacity crowd of 15,000. Pontardawe seized the early initiative seizing upon an error by Leeroy Gregory and effortlessly lobbing Bryn goal keeper Richard Lloyd with a quality strike from the touchline. The midfield area was dominated by Bryn;s enforcers Steve and Andrew Evans as they fought to get their side back in the match. Leeroy Gregory equalised for Bryn with a good strike to send the home fans into raptures. Early in the second half Bryn's chances were dealt a severe blow as Darren Dangelo was sent off following two yellow cards. Ponty were soon to take the lead thanks to an unfortunate own goal from the hard working Mark Trotman. Bryn were feeling hard done by as they were denied two stonewall penalties when Mike Szulik was bundled over. The game was turned on its head with 20 minutes left as Eric Doherty floated a delightfullcorner into the box and it was headed home by Andrew Evans. Bryn sensed the match was there for the taking and they went for the jugular. With 7 minutes to go Bryn's sustained pressure was awarded with a corner, again Doherty found Evans who produced a sublime diving header to win the game for Bryn. Man of the match for Bryn was Richard Lloyd in goals, who after his earlier miss hap made up for it with a good display. The final is to be played at Cwmaman United's home ground Grening park on the 27th April at 6pm. Bryn's opponents will be long time rivals Giants Grave who have themselves won the treble two seasons in a row. Bryn have previously beaten Grave in the cup final by 2-0 and will relish the opportunity of a repeat.

Premier League
As the end of season draws in, nothing short of maximum points would suffice. With Grave hot on their heels, Bryn were poised to take on Clydach; who like Grave and Sunnybank forced Bryn into dropping points earlier in the season when both teams only managed a point against each other in Clydach. Albeit, Bryn now have all to play for unlike their opponents which would only set to spur the young Bryn side on.
Both sides started the game evenly matched. Neither Bryn nor Clydach created any clear cut chances in the opening exchanges. However it soon came clear that Clydachs interest was more into containing Bryn and seemed content to play for the draw. On the other hand, Bryns grit and determination would not allow them to take the same bearing as their opponents and as a result began to push forward looking to dissect through the visitors defence and benefit from their complacent approach. Inevitably a combined defensive and goalkeeping error gifted Bryns Chris Marland acres of space into which to attack the Clydach goal. All the hard work had been done as he rounded the falling keeper, exposing the wide open goal but never will a chance go begging as much as his shot painfully drifted wide. The score remained goalless at half time.
The next goal would prove to be crucial and would likely seal the three points. In the 57th minute the goal that Bryn so desperately needed came. Once again left-back Neil Chopper Evans produced yet again a formidable cross towards the Clydach goal. Running to intercept the cross and whilst under pressure from an ensuing defender, Nicky Berbatov Jones incredibly slotted the ball into the back corner of the goal through the most impossible of gaps from point blank range.
With concrete composure, discipline and strength, Bryn controlled the remainder of the match and although they had further opportunities to extend their lead they rightfully did not risk their invaluable slender lead.
Bryn
Rovers 3 Ystradgynlais 0
Neath
Football League
Although a win over Ystradgynlais would guarantee a top two finish for Bryn, it would not yet reveal who would be crowned champions of the Neath Premier League. As far as their previous encounter went, Bryn would favour this fixture but held no illusions of the damage that Ystrad could potentially cause to their title ambitions.
The game started off relatively even with both teams enjoying spells of possession and decent opportunities to take the lead however neither team could convert. Of both teams, Bryn looked to be the most fluent in their passing and vision. Their understanding of one anothers tendencies and determination evidently surfaced to be witnessed by all who were watching. The frustrating thing was that their hard work did not seem to be rightfully rewarded. If anything the best chance of the first half came from the visitors in the way of a well hit effort from 20 yards that was denied by a fingertip save from the Bryn keeper Arwel Davies.
The second half definitely swung more in the favour of Bryn. Their diligence and patience paid off shortly after the hour when a failed clearance fell to Rhodri Titch Thomas on the edge of the Ystrad area. With defenders quickly closing in, he opted for an incredibly majestic shot that floated perfectly into the top corner. Only two minutes later, Bryn then doubled their lead through a ferocious net breaking shot from Chris Schwarzeneger Marland from 25 yards out. With such velocity behind it, it was no surprise that the Ystrad keeper could not match the effort. The game seemed well within the control of the hosts following the two quick fire goals and there seemed to be no clear route back for Ystrad to create an upset. Nevertheless, Rhodri Titch Thomas was on hand to secure the victory for Bryn and their best ever league finish as he once again took full advantage of a failed clearance. From short range he powered the ball home beyond the keepers best efforts to deny the shot.
After twenty games; sixteen wins, three losses, one draw, scored sixty and conceded twenty-eight, Bryn Rovers will not yet know whether their efforts will gain them league glory. However the thirty-three Bryn Rovers players who contributed at some point this season have already proved that they have presented themselves as worthy winners.
Ynysymeudwy
Athletic 2 - Bryn Rovers 3
Neath
Premier League
With only three games remaining, Bryn travelled to already relegated Ynysymeudwy for their final away game of the season. This top vs bottom clash proved to be one of the most frustrating fixtures Bryn have had to encounter all season.
In the opening minutes Bryn set out to seize an early advantage as winger Chris "Arnie" Marland was left with space and time to open the scoring, however his shot did not trouble the Ynys keeper. Nevertheless Bryn loomed menacingly outside the Ynys area and were awarded a penalty on ten minutes when Nicky "Berbatov" Jones was brought down illegally within the penalty area. Phil "Faster than the speed of light" Eady stepped up to take the spot kick however, not for the first time this season his effort was saved. This would eventually be a sign of Bryn's fortunes to come. Following the miss, Bryn seemed to lose their composure and poor decision-making and passing allowed Ynys to enjoy most possession. Now chasing Ynys shadows, Bryn were punished in the 42nd minute as the midfield failed to close down an attacker in time to stop a 30 yard strike from finding the back of the net and ultimately leaving Bryn red faced. True to the form of a team chasing league glory, Bryn took advantage of their hosts' overconfidence and struck back to level the game on the stroke of half time. Nicky "Berbatov" Jones's pass let loose Phil "Faster than the speed of Light" Eady on the Ynys goal and from 15 yards he slotted the ball straight into the back of the net.
The second half proved to be very much a stale mate, albeit Bryn's passing much improved which in turn allowed the visitors the opportunity to create chances in which to put the game beyond Ynys. It was evident now that the tempo at which Bryn now raised the game to was too much for the now tiring hosts. With an hour played, the Ynys defence finally succumbed to the mounting pressure as Rhodri "Titch" Thomas unselfishly popped the ball up for Phil "Faster than the speed of Light" Eady to send Bryn into a deserved lead. With confidence at a high, five minutes later saw Bryn extend their lead as Nicky "Berbatov" Jones rounded the keeper and placed the ball into an empty goal. Despite leading, the game now turned into a war of attrition for the league leaders as injuries begun to mount and Ynys pulled to within a goal as a breakdown in communication allowed an attacker to squeeze the ball beyond the reach of both defender and keeper. The remaining minutes of the game continued to be closely contested however it was Bryn who ran out the eventual winners, edging them ever closer to the league title.

Since completing the league double over local rivals Cwm Wanderers three weeks ago Bryn have been redundant as a result of non fixtures and adverse weather. Park on the other hand unexpectedly held Bryns title rivals Giants Grave to a 2-2 draw during this time, leaving Bryn very much happy bunnies heading into the Easter games. Now though its back to business as usual as it was Bryns turn to take on Park in Estadio Olymico Cae Cricedo.
From the first whistle Bryn set out to nail Park into their own half by producing effortless yet dangerous crosses which continuously proved to be a pain in the side for Park to bear. Only six minutes in, Bryn opened the scoring as Chris Easter Bunny Marland capitalised on the Park defence failing to clear a through ball. Marland then smoothly whipped the ball beyond the keepers reach to send Bryn thundering into the lead. Already completely dominating the game, Bryn soon after the opener looked to have condemned Park to an early and painful defeat. This time it was Nicky Jesus Jones who took full advantage of a failed clearance by Park and hammered in a volley of biblical proportions over the keeper from the edge of the box. Bryn continued to look deadly throughout the half and eventually entered half time with their two goal lead intact and Park in need of a miracle.
However, Park begun the second half with a much more inspired performance and were rewarded early on as a divine strike from twenty yards out found the top corner of the net leaving Bryn furious. Not accepting their now one goal lead as an adequate score line for title contenders, Bryn set out to wreak havoc within the Park defence as they had done in the first half. Soon enough their perseverance subjected Park to more untold suffering as the visitors were once again picking the ball from their own net on 68 minutes following a heavenly strike from Nicky Jesus Jones from 14 yards. Once again Bryn seemed complacent with their advantage and as a result Park once again pulled back to within a goal following yet another thunderous strike that left Bryn in sheer disbelief. Park seemed hell bent on forcing Bryn to repent for their defensive sins and ultimately seemed to have resurrected their chances as a defensive error from Jason Emperor Yoginho Harries allowed the Park striker to find the back of the net from only 6 yards out.
Bryn would no longer allow Park to rampage their way to three points in their temple and the hosts set out to completely crucify Park for contemplating such an idea. Nicky Jesus Jones was once again on hand to close the door on Parks tomb not once but twice on 81 and 87 minutes for his third and fourth of the game, thus keeping the league title hopes alive.

Despite their home victory over local rivals Cwm Wanderers three weeks ago, Bryn could be forgiven for their uncertainty as they prepared to travel to Cwm for the away fixture. In previous seasons Bryn have been subjected to frustrating defeats on the road at Cwmtwrch. Nevertheless, with only five games remaining and Bryn locked in battle for the league title, every point has been deemed crucial and nothing short of a win would suffice.
However within a minute of the kickoff there was an unbearable feeling of history repeating itself. Bryns Matthew Preston failed to close down a Cwm attacker out wide gifting him time and space to cross the ball towards the Bryn penalty area. Unselfishly, the opposite Cwm winger gathered the cross following countless missed headers and returned the ball for a lone Cwm striker to direct the ball into the back of the net from short range. Now incensed by their lack of defensive awareness, Bryn endeavoured to push forward and it was soon clear that contrary to the score line, Bryn were indeed the team very much in control. With less than quarter of an hour played Bryn as expected found the back of the Cwm net. Bryn midfielder Tom Hurley unbelievable clung onto possession and eventually found striker Phil Eady who further extended his scoring rampage to 9 goals in 4 games by slotting the ball beyond the reach of the Cwm keeper.
Immediately after the equaliser Bryn looked sure to double their lead but were left astonished as Nicky Jones blasted the ball over the crossbar despite being unmarked 12 yards out. In spite of such as chance gone begging, a far more shocking revelation would soon unravel. Ten minutes into the 2nd half, Bryn winger Rhodri Thomas was awarded a free kick as he was brought down outside the Cwm penalty area. With incredible accuracy he then duly slotted the ball into the top left corner of the net from 23 yards out. His first goal in seven games was celebrated with passion and relief and was extra rewarding given that it was against his former club.
For Bryn three points were very much in sight as the home side seldom had possession to mount a comeback. Albeit the game was firmly secured at 78 minutes when a cross-come-shot from Bryns Chris Marland travelled unchallenged across the Cwm goal, which seemingly was going wide. Incredibly the ball found the back of the net at the far post without a touch from defender nor attacker, ultimately leaving the hosts shell shocked and Bryn once again triumphant.
Ynysygerwen

Premier League
Due to a lack of suitable venue to host the fixture, Ynysygerwen surprisingly forfeited their home advantage by requesting that the match be staged at Bryns Cae Criced for the second time this season. Bryn were all too aware of Ynysygerwens new found form and held no illusion of the challenge that they would have to overcome to remain on top of the league.
Reminiscent of the previous week, Bryn started the game on the back foot as Ynys pushed forward looking to take an early advantage. It soon became clear that Ynys were much improved since their first encounter earlier in the season. However despite the immediate pressure, the formidable Bryn defence saw off any threat that was sent their way. Although it soon transpired that the biggest obstacle Bryn would need to overcome would be the referee, who failed to penalise Ynys for persistent handling of the ball.
With most of the play being contested in the midfield for the better part of the first half it seemed that the game would remain goalless entering the break. That was until on the stroke of half time, Bryn centre half Dan Richards was penalised for a shove on an Ynys attacker 30yards out thus resulting in a free kick. Bryn were quick to stand over the ball for the defence to suitably organise but Bryn skipper Chris Eady was forced out of the way by the referee, allowing Ynys to quickly take the freekick which duly found the back of the net. It was to Bryns disgust that the goal was allowed to stand given the referee had hindered Bryns defence.
After yet another inspirational team talk from Jason Harries, Bryn restarted the second half with composure, vigour and determination and soon imposed themselves in and around the Ynys penalty area, having Ynys very much under siege. In the 55th minute Bryns pressure became too much for their opponents to bear which resulted in Bryn being gifted a penalty kick after a defender was found to yet again have handled the ball. Phil Eady stepped up and levelled the game from 12 yards out. It wasnt long before Bryn doubled their lead. At 65 minutes, Nicky Jones threaded the ball through countless defenders to the awaiting Phil Eady who sent the ball flying into the back of the net. Despite leading and bolstered by their comeback, Bryn continued to look to further their lead but very little of their chances found the target and the game ended with Bryn collecting all three points.

Premier League
Bryn have regained top spot in the Neath Premier League this week after overcoming local rivals Cwm Wanderers at Cae Criced in what was a well-contested and spirited local derby. In recent encounters Bryn have been unfortunate against the young Cwm side, leaving Bryn more than determined to set the record straight. However from the first whistle Cwm set out to send their hosts to yet another crushing defeat at their hands. After only five minutes the visitors succeeded in their plan when Matthew Preston was caught in possession on the edge of the Bryn penalty area, allowing a Cwm attacker to capitalise on Prestons error and power the ball home as players and supporters alike watched on in disbelief.
Although there was a feeling of déjà vu, Bryn seemed spurred on by their abysmal start to the game and immediately began to force Cwm on to the back foot. Bryn mounted attack after attack on the Cwm defence but to Bryns frustration each chance went begging as a result of tough tackles, wide shots and offside traps. However Bryns diligence was rewarded on the stroke of half time as Phil Eady found a through ball from defender Dan Richards. Eadys speed and strength put him beyond the clutch of the Cwm back line and with only the charging keeper to beat, Eady with pin-point accuracy dispatched the ball into the back of the net for the equaliser.
After the break, Bryn continued to force somewhat anxious defending from the visitors but nevertheless the game remained at a deadlock. That was until shortly after the hour when Nicky Jones flicked the ball up for Phil Eady to latch onto and once again Eady, with only the Cwm keeper to beat, curled the ball into the net to give Bryn the lead. Not content with a slender one goal lead, Bryn created numerous chances which could have put the game beyond doubt. However, true to form Cwm battled back and created half chances to equalise. Cwms failed attempts at the Bryn defence only set to demonstrate the dangers of all out attack as Phil Eady was allowed to complete his hat-rick by scoring a near identical goal to his second on a Bryn counter-attack in the 90th minute. The home side saw out the remaining minutes and laid to rest the humiliation of previous results against Cwm.

After being edged out away to Giants Grave in Skewen the week before, Bryn once again were away on their travels to take on AFC Pontardawe. Eager to put the disappointments of the previous week behind them, Bryn right from the first whistle produced some of the most fluent passing and unsurpassed football yet to be seen from them this season. It was clear for all who were watching that it was only a matter of when Bryn would take the lead and not if. The continuous onslaught from forwards Phil Eady and Nicky Jones could only have unnerved Pontardawe and ultimately had them wondering how they could prevent the inevitable goal from counting against them. Albeit the inevitable would soon transpire after only 15 minutes as Dan Richards, looming menacingly 12 yards out, buried the ball beyond hands of the Pontardawe keeper following the well placed corner from the returning Chris Marland. Despite Bryn dominating possession and territory, Pontardawe were occasionally gifted time and space to launch their own offensive on the Bryn goal, only to be denied by weak-willed shots and well timed, potent challenges by a solid Bryn defence.
Not willing to become complacent with one goal to their name, Bryn pushed forward looking to take advantage of the weaknesses that were now evident in Pontardawes defence. As a result Bryn produced some magnificent chances to further extend their lead but all of which astonishingly went begging. The score at half time did not seem to reflect the events of the first half and keeping the lessons of the previous week in mind, the game could easily turn if Bryn could not retain their form and composure following the break.
However, this would not be the case as Bryn came out after half time as hungry as ever. Early on, creating chance after chance was made to look effortless, but nevertheless the ability to convert such chances into a solid lead seemingly eluded them. Bryns persistence was soon rewarded when Chris Eady, unselfishly squared the ball unchallenged across the face of goal for brother Phil Eady to smash the ball in from twelve yards out. It would seem now that Bryns luckless attempts were a thing of the past, until Rhodri Thomas failed to score into a wide open goal. Minutes later a feeling of déjà vu was felt around the ground when once again the same Rhodri Thomas could not seize the opportunity to score despite the Pontardawe keeper being lost and the goal wide open.
It was soon apparent after the countless chances went begging from Bryn, that Pontardawe were believing that the tide of the game could be altered They soon begun to press forward looking to seal some consolation for their lack lustre performance and their best chance came in the form of a sliced cross that forced a top save from the Bryn keeper to match the effort. Despite their best efforts, the game was soon put out of sight when from out wide on the wing, Michael Szulik made a first-rate cross into the Pontardawe penalty area for Phil Eady to net his thirteenth premier league goal of the campaign from close range. The game duly ended with three points secure for the visitors, but credit to Pontardawe did not throw in the towel in the face of an impressive Bryn performance.

Last years champions gave Bryn no favours in this fixture as they were at full strength and Bryn had 8 influential players missing from the squad. Neil Evans had a fantastic game for Bryn as he captained the side for the first time, as Bryn were out of their depth. Neil was unllucky not to score himself with a far post effort. Emyr Lewis also had a great chance to score but shot high and wide. Bryn have to look at their lapse of concentration during both corners which led to both grave goals as the marking in some places was non exsistant. Grave led the game 2-0 untill the final 5 minutes when they took advantage of bad defending to win the contest comprehensivley. This leaves Bryn having allready lost 2 games this season, which gives them a slim hope of winning the division, such is the strength of the section.

In this goal fest Bryn got back to winning ways after a few disappointing results. Persistent hard work by Bryn striker Steffan Cons Conibeer saw him open the scoring in the 3rd minute. Strike partner Andrew Ego Warrior Jones got a brace to make it 3 nil after only 15 minutes.
INCO were given a lifeline when a push in the box saw them awarded a penalty, which was duly converted. But with Bryn camped in the INCO box they scored 2 gaols from corners, the first an own goal and the second from veteran Paul Papin Lane from a trademark 5 yards. INCO pulled one back just before half time when a rasping drive just squirmed through the hands of stand in keeper Andrew Mango Mangan.
The second half continued from the first with Bryn well on top, but their strike duo would miss chance after chance. Somehow against the run of play INCO scored a 3rd goal. Their joy was short lived as they failed to clear their lines and Bryn Player-Manager Gareth Smudger Smith buried the ball into the bottom corner of the net to give their keeper no chance.
Conibeer was unlucky to see a header cleared off the line from a corner, but Anthony Walter Pickett reacted first to slam home number 7. Bryn were then guilty of not clearing their lines and INCO scored a fourth. With only a few minutes left after missing a plethora of chances Jones linked up with pacy winger Mike Ronaldo Young for Mike to score a tap in.
A much needed victory for Bryn with solid performances from Mark The Block Callingham and Rob Shop Owens, with Nathan Facebook Phillips picking up Man of the Match. With a few players due back for their next game, hopefully Bryn 3rds can kick start their season.

Bryn silenced their League neighbours with a resounding 5-1 victory in front of an expressive capacity crowd at Estadio Olympico Cae Criciedo. The first fifteen minutes showed both teams enjoying equal possession and despite Bryn pounding Pontardawe with their pace and strength, they could not exploit the chances that were on offer to take the lead.
Inevitably Bryn perseverance paid off when Tom The Power Hurley with such intensity gave Bryn the lead as he drove the ball home from point blank range. Following this Bryn, now full of energy and enthusiasm, continued to drive forward into the Pontardawe half and on several occasions rued the chances to double their lead. Even so, Bryn best opportunity came when they were rightfully gifted a penalty after a Pontardawe player handled the ball in the area. To the disbelief of spectators, Phil Faster than the speed of light Eady who normally is on target from the spot drove the shot wide of the post. Never the less, he immediately redeemed himself ten minutes later as he skilfully knocked the ball beyond the keeper into the net.
Bryn now boasting a two goal lead seemed to have the game well in their grasp at the half time interval. However a bigger revelation would soon present itself shortly after the restart when Bryns very own veteran Brazilian centre half Jason Yoginho Harries hammered in the third goal as he rose majestically almost like a half bald eagle, half salmon hybrid from ten yards out. The ball nestling in the top left hand corner of the net left the keeper in awe of the beauty of the finish and in what Yoginho later called the final nail in Pontardawes coffin. Following this, Pontardawes desire for the victory soon extinguished along with their fight. Given this Bryn continually broke away beyond the wilting Pontardawe defence and but once again squandered most of their chances notably from winger Rhodri Ginger ninja Thomas and also Nicky Tantastic Jones. Never the less and as expected Bryn added a further two goals to an already impressive score line; once again from Phil Faster than the speed of light Eady and also an astounding strike from Chris Duck and cover Eady sealed a well battled and well earned three points for the home side.

BRYN
ROVERS 10 - HENDY 1
Bryn blew away a hapless Hendy side and in fairness the final score could have been a lot higher had the Bryn strikers had their scoring boots on. Bryn signalled their intentions right from the off by opening the scoring within the very first minute as Nicky "Numpty" Jones neatly lobbed the Hendy keeper whilst battling two defenders in the process.
Bryn continued to pick away at the Hendy defence and deservedly doubled their lead after Chris "Still doesn't need batteries" Marland superbly back heeled the ball up for Phil "Faster than the speed of light" Eady to break away and slot the ball into the back of the net. Bryn continued to press deep into Hendy territory with remarkable pace and power and as expected, quickly extended their lead by further three goals; twice from striker Nicky "Numpty" Jones to complete his hatrick and also from winger Chris "Still doesn't need batteries" Marland.
Despite Bryn going into half time reigning supreme with a convincing yet modest 5-0 lead, the half could be described as cloudy and imprecise as Bryn squandered countless scoring opportunities. However, an unexpected light shone on Estadio Cae Cricedo in the form of a dazzling combination of defence and balletic wing play of veteran full back Chris "Geriatric" Phillips, his first start for the first team since 1948.
Bryn began the second half very much like they started the first and continued to add to the ever widening score line. Phil "Faster than the speed of light" Eady again converted twice for a well earned hatrick, Nicky "Numpty" Jones rounded the keeper for his fourth, Chris "Still doesn't need batteries" Marland elegantly beat the keeper for his second and also Aled "Hightower" Lewis astonished all watching as he tapped the ball into the net from a humble thirty yards out.
The domination was complete when Bryn rolled back the years with the introduction of Paul "Papin" Lane and Steve "Hitman" Hurley, who with a combined age of 652 years drastically increased the average age of the team from a youthful twenty-three to an incredible seventy-three.

After
the disappointments of both open and league cup campaigns, it was
refreshing to see Bryn back to winning ways, showing the vision,
promise and confidence that has been seldom seen since the emphatic
win over league favourites Giants Grave on the opening day of the season.
Bryn
got off to a swinging start within the opening two minutes as Chris
I dont need batteries Marland broke away from the
towering Park defence onto the well placed through ball of Tom
Blisters Hurley. Marland stylishly slid the ball past the
stranded Park keeper to get Bryn off the mark.
Within
five minutes of the opener, Bryn deservedly doubled their lead.
Bryns captain Chris Who ate all the pies Eady with
vision and awe inspiring technique floated a superb ball over the
stationary Park backline for Nicky Berbatov Jones to
calmly lob the onward charging Park keeper.
Bryn continued to mount formidable pressure, a mixture of power and speed, they ran rings around and about the Park outfit. However, in a sudden turn of fortune, Park managed to pull a goal back from a well placed header ten minutes from half time. In a roundabout way, there was much to protest about from Bryns point of view as they felt an injustice upon them; feeling the referee was in no position to award the goal as he was still getting up from being bundled over on the halfway line. Never the less, just before halftime the game see-sawed back in Bryns favour as Phil Faster than the speed of light Eady latched onto a through ball which he duly converted on what seemed to be an impossible angle.
The opening minutes of the second half swung in the favour of the home side as they mounted a series of dangerous offensives. These were aided by the referees inability to recognise quality precision tackles from none other than Jason Yogi Harries. Parks pressure eventually told as they once again pulled a goal back as the Bryn keeper Arwel Loves his line Davies failed to clear a corner ball within the six yard area. Even so he redeemed himself soon after as he made a tremendous top corner save to salvage three hard fought points for Bryn. Bryn successfully clung onto their lead until the final whistle in what was a see-saw game of two halves.

Bryn have never had any luck or decisions when playing Ynysygerwn away, and yet again on Saturday the same cards were dealt again, as every decision went against Bryn. The opening minutes of the match were frantic as Ynysygerwn had several good chances. Bryn were denied a stonewall penalty when Emyr Lewiss surging run was brought to an abrupt end inside the area. To Bryns surprise a penalty was denied, even though the foul happened 10 yards inside the area. Bryn lost striker Chrisitan C Jones to injury after only 20 minutes and Eifion Ball Rogers also picked up a knock after numerous challenges from behind. Bryn were hampered early in the match, but in all fairness they didnt give up. The score at the half was 0-0 with Ynysygerwn shading the first exchanges. Bryn took the lead in the second half when Jason Kung Fu Griffiths met a corner from Mike Ronaldo Young and headed the ball home. Bryn were soon 2-0 up when Steff Cons scored a good goal from a tight angle. Bryns inability to hold on to a lead cost them dearly as they conceded two late goals to draw the game. Dan Macmahon had a good game for Bryn , who have to improve before their visit to champions giants grave next week.

Rovers 2 - Pontardawe 7
Having not conceded a goal and won the last 3 games 7-0, 6-0 and 4-0 Pontardawe knew they had to do something to knock Bryn out of their stride. Luckily for them their first team didn't have a game, so they were unsurprisingly strong in every department. The home side were not helped either by the fact that not a single person from Brynmaman was available to referee, therefore a member of Ponty had to officiate the game. Bryn had the worst possible start as they conceded within 40 seconds when the defence failed to start the game. Bryn were soon level with a goal that left the Pontardawe centre half's in knots, Eifion 'Ball' Rogers and Christian 'C'Jones played a neat exchange of passes before Rogers finished through the keepers legs. Emyr Lewis was then pulled back in the area, but unsurprisingly the referee waved away the protests. Bryn then took the lead when John 'Grizlett' Evans fired a sublime 30 yard strike into the top corner of the goal. Ponty were soon to reply as they again exposed the Bryn defence and scored a well taken goal. At this point the Bryn players were getting increasingly frustrated by the blatant one sided decisions by the referee, it got so bad at one point that even the Ponty players were embarrassed. Ponty took the lead 3-2 with a minute to go, with a goal that was so much off side even some of the attacking players topped, the referee blew for half time. Eventually the referee was changed with an injured Bryn player sensing that a change had to be made and volunteered to officiate the game while not even able to move freely. Bryn lost two players at half time to injuries and were forced to reshuffle a bare bones squad to accommodate the changes. Ponty went on to score 4 further goals in the second half to end the contest.

Due to unforeseen circumstance Bryns home game with Caewern became an away fixture and it was with great credit to Caewern for being able to organise this so quickly at such short notice. This game saw the return of two much missed long term absentees in Matthew Leftie Bowden & Mark Sparky Bradshaw and after falling over their own feet a couple of times they soon settled into the game.
Caewern started the better of the two sides and had an early chance to take the lead, but their striker Dean Moo Morgan lived up to his reputation and missed an open goal from 5 yards. After twenty minutes Bryn started to get into the game only to have some efforts blocked on the edge of the box, a handball amongst them saw a free kick awarded to Bryn and Andrew Ego Warrior Jones saw his effort just miss the target.
The second half continued from where the first ended with Bryn slightly on top, albeit neither side were creating many clear chances, the best falling to Bryn when a cross was met by Gareth Smudger Smith arriving in the box on a trademark lung bursting run, only to see his shot hit a defender and agonisely spin over the bar. Gareth then gave Bryn the lead from a corner when a flick on from veteran sub striker Ivor The Engine Davies was converted with a well angled shot off the defender to beat the keeper.
Unfortunately the lead only lasted a few minutes after a mix up in midfield saw Caewern get an equaliser. On a hot day with the pitch badly in need of cutting Bryns tired legs soon found themselves behind when Caewern scored again, with only a few minutes remaining Bryn pushed players forward in search of an equaliser only to be caught on the break conceding a very late third goal.
Andrew The Boot Mangan had his best performance in a Bryn shirt and the returning players also did well. A special mention to the young Caewern Ref who was excellent throughout, letting the game flow well and showing no favouritism to either side.

Bryn came out on top of the battle of the Rovers with a hard fought 3-2 victory. Bryn brought in the young and the old with former youth player Jack Sckozen & veteran Paul Papin Lane making the 15th comeback of his career. It was Cilfrew who started the brighter and had a couple of good chances to open the scoring to no avail. Bryn started to find their rhythm and a flick on from front man Mark Sparky Bradshaw saw winger Andrew Ego Warrior Jones burst into the box to open the scoring.
The lead didnt last long as Bryn didnt clear their lines and Cilfrew scored with an easy tap in. Bryns response was instant and a good move down the right hand side involving Jack & Paul put in makeshift striker Cerith Clecks Edwards who scored from just inside the 6 yard box.
Cilfrew came out in the 2nd half looking for an equaliser, but Bryn stood firm, until a Bryn tackle saw the ball go straight to Cilfrews midfielder who struck an absolute corker to fly in from over 25 yards. With Bryn pushing forward they won a free kick on the edge of the box, Cerith put in a curling ball which saw Andrew get a header on goal only for the Cilfrew keeper to pull off a top save.
At the other end Bryn were indebted to a fine save from keeper Sheridan Butler Gregory, before another free kick from Cerith saw panic in the Cilfrew box with Mark ensuring Bryn regained the lead and the 3 points.
A good team performance for Bryn with Ricky Test Crash Dummy and Jack putting in good performances, but man of the match went to comeback king Paul Lane.

2 - 0 BRYN ROVERS
On a blistering hot day, the home team lived up to their names as bryn crashed out of the cup against a supercharged sunnybank side, in a match that can only be described as an uninspired performance from a Bryn point of view. After their midweek draw away to F.C Clydach bryn were determined to take an early advantage and as a result enjoyed the early possession with Rhodri 'Ginja Ninja' Thomas forcing a top save from the bank keeper. However Bryn's possession was short lived as sunnybank began to find a steady rhythm in which to pressure the bryn defence. Despite the sunnybank onslaught, a moment of magic appeared when Phil Eady was put through by a well crafted and placed ball by Mathew 'Testicles showing' Jones , however the ensuing volley was placed directly towards the sunnybank keeper. The half duly ended scoreless. Sunnybank started the second half like a good porn star - on top and spanking the opposition. The pressure mounted by sunnybank eventually told and the home side took a well deserved lead, despite all efforts from the Bryn defence. Sunnybank never looked back and soon doubled their lead when a lone attacker was left with all the time and space in the world to place the ball in the back of the net. The stress felt at this point left Jason 'Iogi' Harries with less ginger hair than ever and wondering why he didnt take early retirement 30 years ago. Bryn were ultimately beaten by a better on the day sunnybank side.

continued their fine early season form with a comprehensive 4-0

teams, even more so for the away team. Bryn had all the possession of
the first half but their final ball was as much good as a beta-max
video recorder, as time after time they failed to take the lead. Mike
'Ronaldo' Young missed a good early chance for Bryn before he
eventually gave them the lead with a placed shot. Bryn took the lead
into the first half as they rued their missed chances. Young then
gave bryn their second goal after a ball over the top by Jas Griff
caught the defence out. Eifion 'Ball' Rogers caught the opposition
goalkeeper off guard for the third goal with a quick free kick that
sailed into the far corner of goals as the opposing keeper was still
trying to set up his defensive wall. Rogers then crossed the ball for
bryn's 4th goal as the defender turned it into his own net. A great
win for Bryn that gives them nine points out of the first 3 games
with 3 clean sheets for new goal keeper Rich 'Quiet man' Lloyd.
Rumours persist in Brynaman that Cwmamman United legend Carl 'JT'

This midweek fixture saw several players unavailable due to work commitments and Bryn were forced to shuffle the pack, with midfield dynamo Cerith Clecks Edwards moving up front and new signing Gareth Williams taking his place in midfield. Youngsters Dan Delap McMahon and John Man & Ball Scales made their 1sts starts of the season in a much changed back four.
Despite all these changes Bryn took an early lead when winger Nathan Dallas Phillips set up striker Steffan Cons Conibeer who took his chance well. Nathan soon doubled the lead and Cerith went close after a clever flick on from strike partner Steffan. With sustaind pressure Bryn scored a 3rd from a corner when Chris Shins Edwards scrambled home from a corner. With Bryn well on top they lost influential winger Chris with a broken wrist. Clydach then got their first goal despite a high foot in the built up play, but Bryn were still in control finishing the half.
FC Clydach came out at Bryn in the 2nd half, but Bryn were coping well, until a mix up between John and keeper Sheridan saw John put the ball into his own net. 5 minutes later Bryn regained their 2 goal lead when veteran defender Chris Robocop Phillips scored with a header from a corner. With Bryn well in control they were caught on the break from a corner and FC Clydach scored a third.
With 2 minutes left the turning point of the game occurred when a blatant foul on Dan was not given and the resulting header went to a clearly offside Clydach striker who equalised to rob Bryn of all 3 points. A much aggrieved Bryn side will look to put this behind them and hope that Chris will be back playing shortly.

Bryn played their first home game of the season and they showed their class by condeming sunnybank to a crushing 7-0 defeat. Bryn however started a little slow as the visitors had the better of the first twenty minutes as lil dunno went close with two thirty yard drives, one hitting the upright . Bryn took the lead after thirty minutes when Christian 'Sledge jr' Jones went on a rampaging run from within his own half, before out muscling the centre half and easily beating the stranded keeper. Bryn were soon 2-0 up and the hundreds of fans were treated to a goal from returning player Mike 'Sensational' Szulik, Mike controlled the ball with a deft touch before lobbing the goalkeeper with a sublime strike a la Le Tissier. Szulik dedicated the goal to his late father, who was a former member of bryn rovers himself. Bryn went in at the half 2-0 up but they were more than aware that the game wasnt over. Mike 'Ronaldo' Young for the seond game in succession proved his class with faultless deliveries from corners as he picked out Kieran 'Dingle' Martin and Mark 'Hulk Hogan' Trotman to give Bryn an unsailable 4-0 lead. Mike 'Ronaldo' Young then went on a typical run from within his own half before beating the keeper from the edge of the area with a ferocious strike. Substitutes Nicky 'Nice hat' Jones and Eifion 'Ball' Rogers came off the bench to score a goal a piece to finish the game off for Bryn. A special mention must go to the Bryn back four who were all under 19 and played like seasoned veterans.

Following their promotion as champions last season, with increased Television Revenue, Increased Season Ticket and Merchandising Sales, Bryn 3rds went on a spending spree any Russian Oligarch or Arab Sheikh would be proud of.
They started the season to a sell out Stadio Cae Criced against a young, fit and hungry Ynysmeudw outfit. Bryn were forced into a last minute change when one of their new signings found the heavy expectation and constant media attention too much and left for a low profile club. This change unsettled Bryn early on and it was no surprise when Ynysmeudw took an early lead. With Bryns fat fighters back four struggling against their opponents young legs, they did well to stop the away team scoring any more during the half. Despite a poor team performance Bryn spurned the best chance of the half when a fine through ball put lone striker Steffan Cons Conibeer through, but he didnt trouble the keeper.
Half time saw Bryn regroup and change from their continental system to a more traditional 4-4-2, this also saw the introduction of new signing, target man striker Emyr Heskey Lewis. This saw a more open game, but unfortunately Ynysmeudw increased their lead after some good pressure. Soon after Bryn got a ray of hope when Chris Shins Edwards beat 3 players, before passing to fellow winger Nathan Dallas Phillips who belted the ball with his seldom used left foot to beat the keeper from 25 yards.
For once Bryn were now in charge of the game and a fine through ball saw Chris Edward one on one with the keeper, but before he could get a shot in the last defender fouled him from behind. Despite denying Bryn a goal scoring opportunity the defender stayed on the pitch with no card in sight.
This was the best it got for Bryn and Ynysmeudw got a deserved win, hopefully Bryn will now realise how much of a tougher season they are in for and will rise to the challenge.

After a disappointing 1st game and with a competitive squad Bryn made a few changes with new signing Ricky Test Crash Dummy James making his debut. He was soon in the action, bringing down an opponent to concede an early penalty; Ricky couldnt believe that the ref would give a penalty against him, as it was his birthday. The lively Clydach striker converted the penalty to give them an early lead.
Bryn began to get on top of the Clydach front two and this allowed their midfield to push forward, this saw marquee summer signing Cerith Chipendale Edwards beat his man in the box, whilst the Clydach players thought that the ball had crossed the line, Cerith continued his run and tapped the ball into the net whilst the Clydach players stood still motionless in disbelief, he hasnt had this effect since he stripped naked whilst best man at a recent wedding.
With Bryn now on top they took the lead when striker Andrew Ego Warrior Jones to score at the second attempt, after the home keeper blocked his initial effort. Bryn then had a chance to score again when winger Chris Shins Edwards who was starting to dictate play missed an open goal from 2 yards out. His day worsened later on when he had to go off injured to that most serious of footballing injuries, a blister.
An inspired double substitution early into the second half saw Bryn substitute Nigel Yodel Tremlett show Chris how to score from 2 yards by sliding the ball into his own net with his first touch, to even the score. This rekindled Clydach and they almost caught Bryn on the break only for Nigel to redeem himself by clearing off his line, by heading over the bar.
Bryns midfield was now getting on top with Anthony Refs Mate Davies running the show and a through ball from him saw chaos in the Clydach box, with neither keeper or defender taking charge of the situation, striker Steffan Cons Conibeer managed to get in between them and get a foot to the ball, a covering defender tried his worse to clear on the line, but the ball crossed for Bryn to regain the lead.
With ten minutes remaining Bryn saw the game out, to pick up their first points of the season. An improved performance, albeit with tired legs after 2 games in 3 days, Bryn will now have to do the same this week, which will be another good test for the squad.

Last seasons reserve division 1 runners up Bryn opened their campaign with a cross continental trip to Cwm Wanderers. It didn't take the away team long to open the scoring as the impressive Nicky Jones burst through the stagnant defence and slotted home past the keeper. Mike 'Ronaldo' Young then curled in a precise corner for Kieran 'Dingram' Martin to power a great header home. The Cwm defence were having big problems with containing Bryn's explosive pace, Young again went forward and rounded two defenders before unselfishly squaring the ball for Aled 'The Ghost' Lewis to tap the ball in from five yards. The 3-0 lead at the half probably didn't do Bryn justice as the barricaded Cwm inside their own half, with wave after wave of attacking football. Phil 'The Power' Eadie used his pace to run the defence ragged as he scored Bryn's fourth goal of the game. Then came the highlight of the match as the normally deadly Nicky 'Nice hat' Jones missed an absolute sitter, reminiscent of Ronny Rosenthal all those years ago, but Jones redeemed himself as he tapped the ball in after cleverly using the post and the goal keeper as ricochets. Leif 'Evra' Thoeberoe scored with his very first touch of the match as he scored from a very acute angle. Rovers 5 - 3 Ynysygerwn
Building on their successful start to the season the bryn bandwagon rolls on with another impressive three points from a game that was an excellent advert for the neath league. Despite the referee's best efforts to ruin a perfectly competitive match the players rose above the beaurocracy to produce an epic game of football. Bryn began with their usual blend of pacy and direct play but were stunned when a solitary ynys counter attack produced the first goal of the game to silence the capacity crowd. The local farmer later retrieved his errant sheep. For the next half hour bryn peppered the ynys goal like gordan ramsey cooking fajita's, only to be denied time after time. by a mixture of woodwork, luck and determination from the ynys defence. Finally bryn's endeavour was rewarded by two pin point finishes from Phil'The power' Eadie within the space of two minutes. In a mirror image of the half's beginning, it ended with Ynys producing a sloppy finish from a rare form into the Bryn half to level the game.
Bryn began the second half in imperials form and their irresistible passing produced two quick goals from Chris 'Macho' Marland. One a deft finish and the other a 35 yard strike of such beauty, precision and power that an hermaphrodite Alan Shearer would have been proud of it.
To Ynysygerwn's credit they immediately respond with a Ronaldoesque free kick, Albert a terrible refereeing decision and the greatest miscarriage of justice since Deidre rashid 'the weatherfield one' was tried for fraud on Corrination Street.
Bryn continued to show their class right through to the final whistle. At times the football was as hot as a Dingo's doo dahs and their desserts were served up by phil 'the power' eadie who completed an impressive hat trick. All in all thoroughly deserved win for for Bryn. Although credit is due to ynysygerwn who put up a sterling performance. The ynysy defender was a 6 foot 20 mountain, two bryn players tried to climb his left leg equipped with crampons and a length of rope. At times bryn's football was so breathtaking it could only be described as fantasy football, so much so that the countless supporters attest to seeing two dragons and a unicorn ridden by a hobbit flying over the stadium at the final whistle.

Bryn
Rovers 2 Giants Grave 1
A titanic opening fixture to grace any new football season pitted last year's 2nd and 3rd placed teams against each other at Bryn's fortress Estadio Olympico Cae Cricedo, otherwise known as 'The Theatre of Screams'. Neither side could afford to lose face in such an important match, a marker to what both teams expect to be a successful season ahead.
The early stages were cagey, full of committed challenges and free flowing football. Veteran stalwarts Jason 'Yogi' Harries and Steve 'Brain' Evans, who had earlier collected their bus passes, marshalled the Bryn defence and created a formidable back four with the boundless energy of Matthew 'Tooth Fairy' Preston and Rhodri 'Titch' Thomas who rampaged up and down the left wing all game like a ginger ninja.
Both sides, evenly matched throughout, fought out a goal-less game at the half. Neither goalkeeper was fully stretched, although there were a couple of 30 yard screamers from both sides that almost ended the deadlock. One in particular, a rocket from the Grave central defender, was well saved by the Bryn keeper Arwel 'Giggsy' Davies who broke a finger in the process. Reminiscent of Bert Trautmann in the 1953 FA Cup Final and Rambo at his peak, Giggsy valiantly completed the game.
A rousing half time team talk from Chris 'Captain Marvel' Eady saw Bryn take control of the game from the start of the second half. Bryn's central midfield powerhouse Chris and flamboyant midfield partner Tom 'Twinkle Toes' Hurley won the important central battle that fed the pacey and incisive front pairing of Phil 'Faster than the speed of sound' Eady and Nicky 'Nice Hat!!' Jones. With Phil Eady's energy and direct running causing continuous problem's he sliced through the Grave defence, exhibiting dribbling skills not seen since Ryan Giggs was a newborn baby, and played the ball square across the six yard box where his strike partner Nicky Jones was on hand to slot home the opener.
Ten minutes later the game took an unexpected twist as Grave were reduced to ten men due to foul and abusive language directed at the referee. This seemed to spur on the Grave players and they soon drew level from a corner kick. Bryn will be disappointed to concede such a messy goal as the initial goal bound header was cleared before being scrambled into the net.
Bryn's young side showed great team spirit and mental fortitude to raise their game once again for the final fifteen minutes of the game. The final stages proved to be as open as Jordan's legs with both teams attacking and counter attacking in a breathless cacophony of end to end football. However, with Bryn's superior pace in attack, as well as the tricky wing play of Chris 'Petroleum' Marland and Aled 'Ghost' Lewis there was only one likely winner.
The fitting decisive goal came five minutes from the end with a well worked move down the left wing as livewire Phil Eady played in Chris Marland who outpaced the Grave defence and coolly slotted the ball past the helpless Grave keeper to gift all three points to the home side.
A great start to the new campaign, however Bryn now look forward to the arrival of Pontardawe to 'The Theatre of Screams' on Tuesday night. No doubt a full blooded local derby in store for the sell out crowd, although there are some executive boxes available for corporate hospitality.

BRYN ROVERS A.F.C 1sts 2nds SEASON REVIEW
Another first occurred for Bryn Rovers a.f.c during the 2008/09 season as both teams were top of their respective divisions following great starts.
Bryn Rovers first team had a very good campaign during the season. The season started with a Swansea Valley Cup Final at coed gwilym park against Pontardawe which saw Bryn capture the cup with a penalty shootout win. A 3rd place finish in the Premier division wasnt a bad season for Bryn as Onllwyn remained undefeated all season and finished above Giants Grave to capture the title. The team also had a chance to defend the Swansea Valley Cup in the same season that they won it due to fixture backlogs the previous season, unfortunately they were undone on the day by Ynystawe despite some heavy pressure by Bryn throughout the game. Top marksman for Bryn for the season was Phil Eadie who managed a staggering 56 goals for all teams.
Bryn second team had another good season finishing runners up in the league to Giants Grave for the second season in a row, despite beating Grave away 5-3 on the opening day and drawing with them home 2-2. The season didnt get off to the best start for Bryn as they lost former first team enforcer Richard Dicky Jones to a bad knee injury in a match against Lampeter. Up until February Bryn were undefeated having not lost any of the previous 13 games. Grave were again to have a say in Bryns season as they demolished them at the field of screams 4-0 in the league cup semi final. There were the usual high scoring games as Inco C were put to the sword 10-1 at Cae Criced with Nicky Jones adding 4 goals in the first half. Local rivals Cwm Wanderers were beaten 5-0 and 6-0 with Andrew Evans scoring inside 5 seconds in the away fixture with a goal directly from the kick off, and Ynysygerwn were beaten 11-1 away with Eifion Rogers scoring 4 goals, Andrew Evans had a great day also setting up 6 goals in a dominant midfield display. Bryn will feel their inability to keep their focus for the so called easier contests will have cost them the title for the 3rd season in a row. Nicky Jones, Mark Griffiths, Neil Evans are to be commended for their displays as they made their way into the first team after only half a season with the seconds.
In their best ever season Bryn only lost once on their way to winning Reserve Division 3. With a batch of promising youngsters like Anthony Davies, Dan McMahon and Danny Jones under the tutelage of seasoned campaigners Nigel Yodel Tremlett, Robert Shop Owens, Gareth Smudger Smith and John Grizz Evans. The 3rds started the season well with a couple of victories and a draw with INCO B who would push them all the way for the title, the 3-3 midweek draw had seen Bryn 3-1 up with ten minutes to go, but two INCO substitutes would even the score late on. Following this a depleted Bryn side headed to Harp to register what would turn out to be their only league defeat of the season, with Bryn seemingly in charge they had a crazy fifteen minute period which saw them concede four goals, Bryn scored a consolation but that was all it turned out to be. Bryn bounced back from this with an 11-0 victory over Pontarddulais, with young strikers Christian C Jones and Steffan Cons Conibeer scoring six between them. Several more victories saw them through to the Cup Semis and second place in the league and their chance to go top came on the final Saturday before xmas with an away trip to league leaders INCO B, despite controlling most of the game Bryn were being held 1-1, but fortuitously an INCO defender put the ball into his own net and Bryn climbed to the top of the league. This good form continued into the New Year, but injuries to key men Andrew Ego Warrior Jones and Anthony Walter Pickett disrupted the team. But with plenty of versatility up front with not only Christian and Steffan, but also Rhys Rage Page and Christopher Shins Edwards they continued to pick up the wins. An impressive double over 3rd place Cilfrew ensured promotion with wingers Nathan Dallas Phillips and top scorer Mike Ronaldo Young tormenting them. Attention turned to the Cup Semi Final against a new look Cimla which saw Bryn put in their worst performance for many a season and were lucky to only be three nil down, a much improved second half saw them score a consolation penalty. Thankfully Bryn put this behind them and duly went about winning the league, finishing the season with a point away to Rhos to clinch the title. Overall a great team performance saw them top scorers in the league with sixty seven goals. This coupled with the least goals conceded in the league by a hard working Bryn team, with player of the year keeper Sheridan Butler Gregory outstanding throughout as the last line of defence. Bryn now look forward to the challenges they face in a higher division next season.
Bryn Rovers AFC Thirds Season Review 2008/09
